Waiting on Wednesday (4)

Now Playing: Hands in the Air - Ne-Yo (feat. Timbaland)

Feb. 5 releases!

Scarlet

Goodreads says:
Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Perfect Scoundrels

Goodreads say:
Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting--or stealing--whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune. So instead of being the heir--this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy.

Etiquette & Espionage

Goodreads say:
It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother's existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea--and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right--but it's a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine's certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage, and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school.

First in a four book YA series set 25 years before the Parasol Protectorate but in the same universe
.

It's fairytales! And cons!! And steampunk!!! February 5th is happy day!!!

Another Tourney!

Hey guys! I'm such a bad blogger but I'm back! Recently while prowling Twitter, The YA Sisterhood said their Heroines Tourney will be starting soon. Five days from today to be specific.

First things first, a round of applause for YA Sisterhood, for holding two Tourney's in the span of 5 months!!

image

Now, for all you who live under rocks, or don't compulsively check Twitter like me (I have no control, I swear), The Heroines Tourney is something like the Crush Tourney (which was this summer, had boys, frequent server crashes, and SO MANY CUTE BOYS) except the Heroines are about the leading ladies and each girl fights her way to be to the top (because similar to Highlander, there can only be one). Among them will be Aura from Shade, Kat from Heist Society, Emerson from Hourglass, Rose from Vampire Academy,Tessa from Clockwork Angel, Katniss from Hunger Games, Hermoine from Harry Potter, and Izzy from The Mortal Instruments. That's right, some of the most kick-ass girls will be in this years Heroine Tourney. There will be people advocating for them in the tourney, stating why their girl is awesome and deserves to move up the ladder and all we do is vote. You can all show your support by clicking here to find out who's repping them and grab the button for that girl, as well as the YA Heroines Tourney button. I promote everyone on Twitter shamelessly and report on the Tournament (since I'm just that good!) to all the Tweeters. You can all help and promote them on twitter too, if you have one, or you can spread it through your blog!

YAY!! follow my twitter @JazminLabrada for crazy tweets and updates on Twitter.

Ally Carter: post 2

Sadly, Ally C. is not doing an exclusive with my blog but I'm continuing reviewing her books. They're like a reader high (or that may just be me). Anyways today's review: Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy (sequel to LYKY)

Cross My Heart is a light fun read that you love to get into because it immerses you in the world f a teenage spy girl and also doesn't fall flat as a sequel. CMH doesn't fail to deliver sass, pizzazz, covert assignments and one of the best ballroom scenes penned down. Enjoy and bless you Ally Carter for being you with the clean content (save for some kissing) and hilarious put downs.

OHMYGOD I SUCK AT BLOGGING, ALSO I REVIEWED, SO I DON'T TOTALLY SUCK.

On the iPod: Electric Twist -A Fine Frenzy

I. am. SO. sorry for the erratic posting. One week I am, another I'm not and ahh!!! But don't worry because I read books! which are part of a series so this next four days, they shall be filled with reviews and such! YAY!!!! Also, I've been finding books to giveaway as prizes for the YA Sisterhood's Summer Crush Tournament advocates and such. I also WATCHED HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2. I cried. And laughed. And rejoiced. And then I stared at my computer for several days with glassy eyes as I realized there will be no more Harry Potter movies and then I lost it. But then I got out of it. :)

Cammie Morgan is your ordinary girl. She goes to school and takes classes but the similarities end there. Cammie "The Chameleon" goes to the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. Instead of all those regular classes a boarding school has, they have Covert Operations (Cove-Ops), Ancient Languages, Countries of the World (CoW), Culture and Assimilation, and Protection and Enforcement (P&E). Of course, what makes things even better is that the new Cove Ops teacher is real eye candy which is great to the all female student body. And then things start to get hectic, as the daughter of a Senator and cosmetic heiress, Macey McHenry, is sent to the Gallagher Academy. Madness ensues as well as one cute clueless boy sets his sights on the Chameleon, Cammie. Yep, everything was so much easier before boys were involved.
I adored LYKY because of Ally Carter's fresh take on the teenage boarding school and put in spies, clandestine covert missions and shoes and clothes. They were so smashing when I first read them (which was like in 4th grade) and they've been a part of me too. Kinda like Harry Potter. The next books in the series don't disappoint either!

RT BOOK LOVERS CONVENTION: TEEN DAY; the adventure

Hey y'all! I WAS supposed to post this yesterday but I was too tired to even move after I knocked out on the couch. Anyways yesterday was the Romantic Times Teen Day Convention and I was lucky enough to go but how I got there is a totally different story.
Here's how the day went:

7:30 a.m: i woke up, very excited. Couldn't WAIT to see my favorite authors but I wasn't changed and I was too busy huddling under my blankets for warmth.

8:00 a.m: I got up, changed and fed my pets under 10 minutes. Normally it takes 5 but I was stupid enough to wear super tight jeans. STUPID!

8:20 a.m: eat breakfast; do chores; sit around and wait.

9:20 a.m: Walk to bus stop (lovely parents didn't want to drive me. grr...)

9:30 a.m: @ Bust stop, waited there until 9:50 and then I was EXCITED. I was going to meet Authors and NOTHING COULD STOP ME. NOTHING.

10:20 a.m: Got off the WRONG STOP and sat by LAX parking for an hour. I wanted to murder someone. Lots of swearing and scared stares

10:50 a.m: called mom (she confuzzled me;actually i couldn't hear squat from my phone. stupid thing.) and then I went to Sissy and Bro (who is now WonderBro.... kinda sounds like WarnerBro... ANYWAY...)

after half an hour of talking, swearing and walking 20 feet from where I was WonderBro and Sissy decided to pick me up (FINALLY.)

11:20 a.m: On the bus where Mom called me. (insert FUDGE MUFFIN) she got mad that I was late and couldn't follow directions. Threatened to lock me in room if I got home alive (fear takes over..)

WonderBro left me at different bus stop and then I understood his directions this time. I waited on the bus forEVER until we reached the last stop. I got off and then I called Mom. Mom helped but I walked around for like half an hour until I went the opposite way I was going and found the bus to take me to the hotel where RT times was being held at. My mom was on the phone with me the entire time until I got off,

1:30 p.m: I WAS AT RT BOOK CONVENTION, FINALLY. I WAS ECSTATIC AND FULL OF EUPHORIA. I paid for my ticket and walked in. Luckily all the YA authors were in the YA Alley so all I did was fly one place to another.

Ally Carter and Holly Black were my go-to peeps when I got there. Ally's so sweet (she laughs a lot, so she was also chill) and Holly was the bomb! She referred to me as one of 'Ally's' so that's why I heard about White Cat. I got Red Glove and Only the Good Spy Young as well as getting a 'Memory Worker' wristband. Then I went to Alyson Noel and she signed a bunch of book marks for me! YAY! we talked for a bit and she's so nice and kind! I went to Jennifer Lynn Barnes, author of Raised By Wolves and she signed a small photograph of it for me, YEAH! Then I went to Jackie Morse Kessler who signed a Rage poster to me. (I loved yesterday, p.s) Then Mari Mancusi who wrote Boys that Bite series gave me a bookmark, Carrie Ryan signed my copy of Forest of Hands and Teeth, Rachel Caine (who I talked to forever!) signed my copy of Ghost Town (Morganville Vamp. series) and we kept laughing about stupid things :). I bought Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis and got Richelle Mead to sign two posters and Cassandra Clare signed my City of Fallen Angels and signed a poster for a friend of mine. Then i went to a speed-reading event with some authors (Rachel Caine, Heather Davis, Kady Cross, to name a few) as well as going how do you create a story with Melissa Mar, Rachel Caine, Melissa De La Cruz, and two other authors who were the bomb.( We created a story where zombies who ate limbs were downstairs in the hotel and wore pink military uniforms for breast cancer awareness and searching for the zombie chosen one. It was wicked fun.) And another story (of karaoke night gone bad in the post office) and (a were-squirrel who turned into a hot guy on the full moon and stalked you while living in your attic. That was intense.) Unfortunately my parents decided to pick me up before I could have gotten a swag bag. (DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but all in all it was so much fun!
I also realized I can't follow directions to SAVE MY LIFE. If I am ever on a road trip with you, we're screwed (actually don't give me the map, I'll drive.)

Bye and have a good weekend!

A BUNCH OF STUFF IN A DAY!!!

Hey everyone!! I just read Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink. Mind. Blown. I'm not joking, this book is super addicting and everyone isn't who they say they are. It's dark, twisted, shocking, and packed with emotion. It's gonna be an trilogy and I'm eagerly awaiting to get Gaurdian of the Gate. Here's my summary of Prophecy of the Sisters:

Two twin sister, Lia and Alice Milthorpe are twins who've had tragedy strike in their lives more than once. With their mom dead, younger brother a cripple and their father recently deceased, the universe should take pity on these girls but it doesn't. They're under the care of their Aunt Virginia and trying to move on with their lives but then a prophecy unfolds before them; Two sisters, one good and one bad are at war to protect the world from the raising of Satan and lost souls, the curse goes on in families ruining the relationship of sisters. Soon Lia and Alice grow apart and find themselves pitted against the other, battling it out for peace on the world or all hell breaks loose. One to save it and one to end it. What will happen? OH, BY THE WAY there's romance in here too so I'm like cool. Yet this book gets a bit dry near the middle-beginning (first part of the middle) and I was like 'GET ON WITH THE STORY!" but you know what this is still a good books. As of today, I have yet to find a book that I completely hate (Twilight, your the exception; watch your back...).

And here's the cover for the second book: Guardian of the Gate

I forget to mention, like a while ago that Heist Society's second book title is Uncommon Criminals and the excerpt:

Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life. Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long, and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous and that is simply… the emerald is cursed.

Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all she has her best friend—the gorgeous Hale—and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses, realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.

Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.

Wow!

On the iPod: Black Balloon - The Kills

Well today was a great today because of the release of Ally Carter's new book Only the Good Spy Young and let me be the first to say it was amazing!!!!!!

Ally knows how to keep her readers entertained and at the end, I cried. Yes, I did and once you finish the book and read the last two pages, you will too!

But it was soo good and it was funny at times that I laughed right along. It's a truly amazing book and GG4 was so tightly wound that I am already anticipating GG5.

And in other related news i have 6 more books eagerly awaiting reviewing.

First off, let me say out of the 6 books i have, 2/3 of them are supernatural themed related. ( I know, I'm a sucker for vampire cliches and etc.)

 The Eternal Kiss
my review: 3 stars

So it was good but it lacked some back bone in it. I mean the title/cover says it all, it's gonna be vampires but some of these tales weren't as good as they should have been. These are some of the best vamp-fiction writers there are but it doesn't mean that they shouldn't try harder, even if it was in short story format.

The Poison Eaters

my review: 3 stars

Short stories from Holly Black that go back to where she started with faeries and stuff. It was good and you'll see the Coldest Girl in Coldtown again.

It was very fun but I hated the Boy Who Cried Wolf story and another one.

The Summoning

my review: 3 stars

It's pretty good. So Chloe is sent to a home for kids with psychological problems and there she meets some friends (Liz and Rae), a not-so-nice friend (Tori...), two boys (Derek and Simon) and a crazy corporation wanting to study Chloe and her friends (the Edison Group). Can't wait to see how it all ends, but am unsure if I should continue.

Once Dead, Twice Shy
my review: 3 stars

Fun, cool, sassy and awesome. Madison had been killed at her prom. Targeted by a dark reaper, she manages to steal his amulet and she's giving somewhat of a body. So now she's stuck on Earth; dead but not gone and with help from a light reaper and her crush and her guardian angel, maybe just maybe, she can take control of her destiny.

Boys, Girls, and other Hazardous Materials
My review: 2 stars

It was....good but too girly for my liking. With Charlie starting high school in a new school she thinks she'll get a fresh start but not when she meets with her old friend,Will. And then her other friend,Nidhi from middle school. Drama erupts. Cat fights. And boys. If you didn't catch the earlier message, I do not like girly books with too much romance and a 'weak' plot (which means not enough action, conflict, etc.)

Last but certainly not the least...

Heist Society!
my review: 5 STARS!!!!!
The new installment by Ally Carter, about teenage con men and women.
I LOVED IT!! It was another great move by Ally Carter and I have had an obsession with thieves and con men since White Collar and Leverage, dating back to the beginning of the Ocean's series movies (George Clooney!!)
I love this team as it has characters that compliment their strengths and weaknesses.
Angus and Hamish bring the funny and trigger happiness.
Simon brings the nerd (love him!!!)
Gabriel brings the "Wow"-factor to the team. She can be a thief and stiil look good doing it.

Hale cause he's great to stare at and is instrumental as to being Kat's right-hand man

and Kat because Kat just brings these 'outcasts'  together as well as the whole plan. (Imagine Oceans when they were teens.)
